The Police Chief of Aceh Tamiang Receives a Firearm Leftover from Conflict

LINEAR.CO.ID | ACEH TAMIANG - The Police Chief of Aceh Tamiang, AKBP Muhammad Yanis, received a long-barreled firearm of the AK-56 type, which was a leftover from the conflict era. The weapon was handed over by a citizen at the Aceh Tamiang Police Station on Thursday, April 6, 2023.

Muhammad Yanis stated that the handover of the weapon was a sign of increasing trust of the community towards the Indonesian National Police institution.

"We received a single long-barreled firearm of the AK-56 type from a citizen, which is a remnant from the Aceh conflict era," said Yanis in his statement on Friday, April 7, 2023.

Yanis also expressed that the destruction of firearms, especially those left over from the conflict, was one of the peace agreements between the Indonesian government and the Free Aceh Movement on August 15, 2005.

"Of course, we appreciate the weapon owner's self-awareness in voluntarily handing over the firearm. Moreover, this weapon has been stored for quite a long time," Yanis added.

The AK-56 weapon will be stored in the Aceh Tamiang Police Station's armory before being destroyed.
